Teetering for Tots 2011
The night started off perfectly. All of the tasks accomplished on time, culminating in a perfectly executed start-time. The night sailed smoothly on with some fresh tunes provided for us by our wonderful Theta Tau DJ’s with equipment supplied by WXUT. Alumni poured in from all over the country and one could just feel the brotherhood in the air mixing with that feeling that comes with doing an activity that you just know is making a difference. That special warmness in your heart that you only truly know when you give of yourself completely.
As the night wore on the temperature dropped, eyes grew heavy, but the teeter tottered on. We never give up. From sundown to sunrise and back to sundown we keep moving, generating that kinetic energy to raise money for these families and an organization that need all of the funding they can get. Saturday morning started off fresh with some of us not seeing sleep and some of us only seeing a few hours at best. Some of us lost our voices, and some of us came down with some sinus congestion, but we kept at it.
The morning turned into the afternoon and the tailgaters started to arrive. That’s when the party really starts. They come up to us, ask us about the teeter totter, and then make their donations or encourage us to continue on. The words do not fall on deaf ears. We make our move through the parking lot drawing attention to the giant teeter totter still moving just feet from the tailgaters and tell them about our mission. Our goal. The sun starts to set again.
BOOM! The sound of the kickoff from the Glassbowl resonates across campus. Now we know that our job is done for this year. It’s just like the final bell for class in high school. You know you can finally rest and relax, but you know that you’ve made a difference in the lives of thousands of people.
Teetering was a complete success.
